FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

COVID: WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ENSURE MY SAFETY IF I VISIT DURING THE PANDEMIC?

We appreciate and understand that these are worrying times and that we have a duty of care to our visitors, staff and local residents.

We want to assure you that we have done everything possible to try and ensure everyone's safety. Despite being able to open on 4th July 2020 we decided for the King's Arms, morally and ethically , it was not the right time to do so. We did not open until 12th August 2020, resulting in further lost revenue, but this allowed us nearly six weeks to observe and digest information from the UK trade to see what had worked and, more importantly, what hadn't worked. From this we were able to evolve our Covid safety plan.

We have conducted risk assessments, staff training, seat planning and deep cleaning. The pub has been cleaned and redecorated inside and out, flooring has been stripped and re-varnished, all upholstery and carpets have been steam cleaned. We have invested in PPE for the team, Walkie Talkies so that the team can reduce the amount of physical interaction / cross over journeys etc, external payment machines to save you having to come to the bar to pay, we are installing an intercom in the beer garden to order your drinks thus further reducing journeys into the pub, hand sanitiser stations and, as Captain Lassard would say in Police Academy, many, many, many other things.

All we ask for in return is follow the rules and use your common sense to keep everyone safe.

COVID: WHY ARE YOU NOT IN THE "EAT OUT TO HELP OUT" SCHEME?

We looked long and hard at this but were concerned, as an already popular coastal location, it would simply drive too much traffic to the pub at a time we were trying to maintain social distancing and safety for our visitors, staff and local residents. It would appear based on a few articles that our concern was valid.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused. To the very irate gentleman earlier in the week just to let you know we tried to take your advice but the pub did not fit up the Landlord's bottom!

COVID: WHY ARE YOU TAKING MY NAME & CONTACT DETAIL ON ENTERING THE PUB?

We do understand that not everyone is happy with this but we must adhere to the Government guidelines - it is not in our place to argue the points of civil liberties / GDPR etc etc. No name and contact number = no service unfortunately. We are aware that some premises are not taking this detail but that does not mean we have to follow them - the information will only be used to contact you if there is a positive Covid19 visitor to the pub so testing can be arranged and therefore we feel this helps in the fight against the virus.

We are too busy to use the information for any other purpose and this is against the law. The information is only seen by management, secured in a locked office and cross-cut shredded after 21 days. We are not going to use it to contact you to try and sell an extra packet of Crisps!

GENERAL: WHY DO YOU NOT ALLOW DOGS?

As dog owners we appreciate that there can be nothing better than a day out at the coast with your four-legged friend and also your dog. However, as a Public House we are trying to serve the needs and comforts of many different visitors with opposing views on many different subjects - TV v No TV, Music v No Music, Dogs v no Dogs - and we cannot please all the people all the time.

We are simply too small to accommodate dogs in a special area during food service times but welcome them once the food is done and if they stick to the rules. - it is known as a compromise. Don't worry we are not victimising dogs - the rules also apply to Parakeets, Gerbils, Hamsters and Goldfish etc during food service

GENERAL: YOU APPEAR TO HAVE REMOVED YOUR VEGAN MENU - IS THIS TRUE AND, IF SO, WHY?

Yes we have but we can always create a vegan dish if required on the day or give a larger choice if booking in advance.

Like many businesses we felt under enormous pressure to create a Vegan menu due to general Social Media pressure in early 2019. However, the reality is, despite very positive feedback at the taster sessions, sales accounted for less than 1% of our food orders up until "lockdown". Simply put this is not sustainable in normal trade and certainly not in the current times. We therefore have taken the difficult decision to withdraw the menu to concentrate on our core skills that are expected from our type of food operation. We will, however, keep this decision under constant review.

GENERAL: DO YOU SELL GIFT VOUCHERS?

Yes we do, they can be in any denomination, are valid for one year from date of purchase and can be used for food or drink.

See staff for details and they can be picked up for free at the King's or telephone orders can now be taken and they can be posted to anywhere in the UK for +£2.50 P&P.

GENERAL: I'VE HEARD THE LANDORD IS A RIGHT MISERABLE A*** AND IS WORSE THAN VICTOR MELDREW, IS THIS TRUE?

Yes, some say the BBC used him to train Victor and that he could make any party seem like a wake with his abject misery but to us he is..........................................The Boss!
